Kang Baek-ho of professional baseball KT Wiz is expected to return to the outfield.
KT coach Lee Kang-cheol said, “We have to give Kang Baek-ho a seat. I’m thinking of taking the right fielder this year.”
Kang Baek-ho played as an outfielder in the early days of his professional debut. In his first professional season, in 2018 he started 68 games in left field and in 2019 he started 72 games in right field.
But since 2020, he has been playing first base all along.
In 2020, there were 121 games started as a first baseman, and only 3 started as a right fielder. In 2021, there were 128 games played as a starting first baseman, while only four games started as a right fielder.
The situation changed when Byeong-ho Park moved to KT last year. While Byeong-ho Park played as the starting first baseman, Baek-ho Kang often played as the designated hitter. In the 2022 season, Kang Baek-ho started 13 games as a first baseman and 47 games as a designated hitter.
Park Byung-ho is still at first base at KT, but Kang Baek-ho, who is still in his early 20s, cannot be appointed as the designated hitter. Accordingly, coach Lee decided to appoint him as the right fielder this year.
Coach Lee said, “Kang Baek-ho is still young,스포츠토토 but it’s a bit too much to use as a designated hitter. He seems to want a right fielder too,” and said, “You have to look far away.”
Coach Lee and Kang Baek-ho made this decision after continuing to talk during spring camp.
Kang Baek-ho explained, “There are many competitive first basemen on our team. I said this because I wanted to go to the position I was originally looking at.”
