Police detect corruption in the ‘1 trillion won’ development project… “Recruitment of former and current civil servants”

Allegations were raised that former and incumbent public officials took bribes in the process of selecting operators for the 1 trillion won ‘private park development project’ promoted by Gwangju City, Gyeonggi-do.

As a result of the KBS coverage, the National Police Agency’s Severe Crime Investigation Division is investigating a former Gwangju City government official named Kim and an incumbent named Kwak on charges of accepting bribes, respectively.

In addition, Mr. Park, CEO of construction company A먹튀검증 in Gwangju, was also booked on charges of paying money and valuables to them in the process of selecting a business operator and receiving preferential treatment.

The ‘Ssangnyeong Park Private Development Project’ is a KRW 1 trillion project aimed at developing 510,000 square meters of Ssangnyeong-dong, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do into residential areas.

Mr. Kim served as the head of the related business headquarters in 2021 at the director level who was in charge of this project, and Mr. Kwak served as the head of the working-level team.

Police believe that Park, the representative of company A, visited Kim’s house twice in March and September 2021 and handed over 100 million won in cash. In addition, we captured the situation in which money and valuables were given to Mr. Kwak in exchange for preferential treatment in selecting a business operator.

Company A was actually selected as the final operator in September 2021.

The police also secured and confirmed a statement that Mr. Park, the CEO of Company A, gave lobbying funds to politicians in addition to these public officials.
