On the 27th (Korean time), Adames was hit in the head by Brian Anderson’s foul hit at the end of the second inning against the San Francisco Giants in the 2023 Major League Baseball held at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, trailing 1-3.

Adames was watching the game by leaning on the railing of the dugout, but Anderson’s batted ball flew into the dugout without a chance to dodge and hit Adames. Adames leaned against his teammates, then got up and went into the clubhouse.

Surprised, Anderson backed off with a shortstop grounder and ran straight to the clubhouse to check on Adames.

Milwaukee coach Craig Counsell said after the game, “Adames did not suffer any fractures, but was admitted to the hospital for further observation. He will be discharged tomorrow. After that, he will be placed on the injured list (IL).”

Coach Counsell comforted Anderson, who must have been shocked, saying, “I don’t feel good, but this was just an accident. It was a bad accident and it was unfortunate. When the team plays, bad things can happen.”

San Francisco coach Gabe Kapler, who watched the accident in the opposite dugout, said, “Looking at it in real time, I thought Adames could have turned his head or raised his hand to avoid it. It was a really scary moment for Milwaukee and our team.”

Adames, who made his major league debut in 2018, was recording 38 hits in 185 at-bats (9 home runs, 27 RBIs, 23 runs batted in 0.205 OPS 0.676) in 51 games.
